On September 12, 2026, the Bob Hall Legacy Fund and REquipment will host the 1st Annual 5K Bob’s Way at Franklin Park in Boston, bringing together runners, walkers, wheelchair athletes, families, teams, and community partners to honor the legacy of Bob Hall.
This is more than a 5K. It is a community event built around legacy, inclusion, and access.

The Legacy Behind the Start Line
At the 1975 Boston Marathon, Bob Hall pushed himself through the streets of Boston in a wheelchair he personally adapted.
No official category existed for him. No rules had been written. No one had made room for wheelchair athletes at the starting line.
Bob crossed the finish line anyway.
That finish opened the Boston Marathon, and eventually every major race in the world, to wheelchair athletes.
Bob passed away in April 2026, fifty-one years after that ride. The first 5K Bob’s Way will be run in his memory.
This 5K carries the same idea onto a smaller course: nobody waits at the sidelines. Not at a race, and not in daily life. Every dollar raised helps REquipment put refurbished wheelchairs, walkers, and mobility equipment into the hands of people across Massachusetts who are still waiting to move.

Bob Hall Rising Athlete Award
Every athlete has a story. Some stories begin with obstacles, setbacks, or barriers. The most inspiring ones are written by those who choose to keep going anyway.
At the inaugural 5K, we will present the first Bob Hall Rising Athlete Award: $2,500 toward the training, equipment, travel, and competition fees of a young athlete with a disability.
